Bootstrap responsive store design
http://getbootstrap.com/ is a front-end framework for developing responsive designs that work across all devices. While the mobile specific template currently in GOLD has the advantage of specifically targeting the device, The downside is that it's another set of templates that must be designed and tested with each release.

UPDATE: Gold R10 is available with a Bootstrap Responsive theme.
UPDATE: Using Bootstrap, the next release will have a Responsive theme.
We have spent considerable time investigating on how to add a responsive store design to AbleCommerce. We are considering how the feature can be integrated in such as way that will not make it difficult for existing customers to upgrade.

Would love to see this, with the options of 1, 2, and 3 column layouts. Very eager to see what you've been working on!

I've halted development of my own 'roll-your-own' version in anticipation of this. One of my greatest fears of doing it my own way is that I would not have an upgrade path. I am glad Able is listening to their customers and pursuing this and I welcome the opportunity to investigate it more when it is released.

Another +1 for a responsive store design would be that Google is now giving focus to sites that are mobile friendly by highlighting them in their search results on mobile devices. http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/google-now-pointing-you-in-the-direction-of-mobile-friendly-sites/
Since I use a responsive site instead of the /mobile directory, I can't see if having the 2 sites affects search engine results or not. -

It would be really nice to get this done. SEO also suffers from having a segregated mobile store. Lets modernize ablecommerce.

Bootstrap / Responsive option is really needed to keep up with the "fresh" Look and Feel of the competition.
Knowing that an MVC conversion is a huge undertaking and not going to happen anytime soon, being able to have a supported Responsive Theme would be a wonderful compromise.
My clients would be happy with just a public facing theme for now. The admin pages can be done later.

I love bootstrap! I've been spending the better part of 5 months working on creating new conlib files, layout pages, and checkout/My Account pages that use the bootstrap format. I like using the responsive grid format and the various components which make it easy to create pages that flow nicely from one device to another.
