Currently, admins can add a special price (specials) for a product by user group (and/or date). However, if the product has variants setup with price override, the special is only used for the "base" product, any variant gets that standard price set for that variant. It would greatly increase flexibility of pricing to be able to set the specials by product variant for a particular group.
